CITY OF ASTORIA ANNOUNCES NEW CHIEF OF POLICE

We are pleased to announce the selection of the new Astoria Chief of Police, Stacy Kelly. He is in the final stages of the background process and is anticipated to be joining the Police Department, on July 1, 2022.

Kelly comes to us with over 20 years of law enforcement experience in the Newport News Police Department in Virginia serving roles from Patrol Officer to Assistant Chief of Police. Over the course of his career with the Newport News Police Department, he served in various leadership positions in the Special Operations Division, Emergency Communications Division, Administrative Bureau, Patrol Bureau, and he is credited with creating the Newport News Police and Communications Training Academy. During this time, he also attended the FBI National Academy and the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police. For the past five years, he has been based in Scottsdale, Arizona working at Axon where he has spent time traveling to law enforcement agencies across the country in the implementation and training of TASERs and body camera systems.

Stacy has been married to his wife Nicole, an elementary school teacher, for almost 27 years and they have two children.  Nick is currently serving on the Newport News Police Department and Ashleigh is a Junior at Arizona State University.  Stacy’s wife, Nicole, will be making the move to Oregon along with their two dogs, Xura and Bruce and they are looking forward to exploring the northwest and getting to know Astoria.
