Clatsop County is excited to join other counties around the nation observing Operation Green Light for Veterans – and encourages residents, businesses and other public entities to join and shine light on the services of our veterans and their families.
“By shining a green light, we let our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported,” said Josh Davis, veteran’s service officer for Clatsop County. “There is a deep well of community support for veterans and we want them to be able to look around and see that.”
From Monday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 13, all Clatsop County buildings will be lighted green to let veterans in our community know that they are seen, appreciated and supported. Joining Clatsop County in this effort locally is the city of Astoria and Clatsop Community Action.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends. They can share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
“The residents of Clatsop County have great respect, admiration, and the utmost gratitude for all who have selflessly served the United States in the Armed Forces, and the contributions and sacrifices of each person who served in the Armed Forces have been vital in maintaining the way of life enjoyed by the local community,” reads a proclamation approved Wednesday by the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners.
Residents can share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
Clatsop County’s Veterans Services Program works to link local veterans to services and benefits. Go to the Clatsop County website, email clatsopvso@ccaservices.org or call 971-308-1045 for more information.
Operation Green Light is an initiative of the National Association of Counties. Operation Green Light also seeks to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources that are available at the county, state and federal level.
