Join Clatsop Community College and Fort George Brewery for this month’s Ales & Ideas Lecture on Thursday, December 1st, 2022 at 7p.m. featuring presenters Jenni Newton and Rachel Whisler addressing “Resilient Clatsop County: Resources for Our Community”
If we have discovered anything about humanity in the last few years, it is that all communities are impacted by complex and heavy situations, individual experiences, and world-wide events. Resilient Clatsop County (RCC) is an organization that connects regional groups in healthcare, education, and human services to provide resources for support. RCC will also assist with financial needs these organizations may have in order to support the people in Clatsop County. Attendees will learn about the RCC work and why it is important. All are welcome.
Fort George lectures have returned to in-person events. Doors open at 6 p.m., with food, ales, and other beverages available; no purchase necessary. Minors are welcome at this FREE event.
Jenni Newton, PhD (she/her) has worked with the Astoria School District for 23 years. She is currently the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator and guides professional development and transformative change with staff in all of the district’s schools. She is currently a Fellow with CASEL, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning. This organization is the national hub for updated work and research in SEL, the umbrella title which includes concepts like resilience, compassion, identity, and belonging. Jenni, her folks, and her son were all born and raised in Clatsop County. Jenni currently lives in Astoria with her husband, Jeff, and her dog, and cat.
Rachel Whisler moved with her family to Astoria in 1995. She began teaching 20 years ago, 13 years with Seaside School District at Broadway Middle School Middle as a math teacher (plus so much more) and 7 years in her current position as a Teacher on Special Assignment supporting all students learn emotional regulation strategies and practice those skills. Trauma Informed Practices, Social-Emotional Learning and school community wellness are integrated throughout the typical school day. She volunteered in Clatsop County in many capacities participating on Clatsop County Commission on Children and Families, VOCA (Victory Over Child Abuse,) and currently Resilient Clatsop County on the board and the education sector. Rachel loves living in this area and she and her husband John try to adventure outside as often as possible.
