Cannon Beach, OR- March 9, 2023- Surfrider, in partnership with the Columbia River Estuary Study Taskforce (CREST), was awarded an Advanced Assistance grant through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Surfrider is a non-profit environmental organization that works to protect oceans and beaches. CREST is a community organization specializing in environmental planning and habitat restoration for fish and wildlife. Together, the organizations will use the Hazard Mitigation Grant funding to hire a project engineer to study the north bank of Ecola Creek near North Larch Street and propose potential solutions to address the bank erosion occurring along the hillside. This engineering study will be a collaborative effort between the two organizations, as well as the City of Cannon Beach, Breakers Point Condominiums, and other interested parties. If you have any questions please contact Madeline Ishikawa, the CREST project manager at mishikawa@columbiaestuary.org.
